Pre Wedding Weight loss

Hi lovely ladies … and gentleman (in case there are some reading this blog). I hope you are all well  and healthy and still enjoying your wedding preparation journey.

Today I tackle weighty issue of losing weight. Firstly I need to confess that I’m no expert on this topic .  I have been overweight for most of my life and its something that I really struggle with.

Firstly there is no such thing as a quick fix, losing the weight and keeping it off is a mind change and a lifestyle change. You cannot expect to eat what you want and stay skinny. Yes there are all these wonderful tablets and gadgets you get to help you on your journey but once you reach your goal weight you will still have to continue eating as you did or you will just pack all the weight back on.

When it comes to weight loss here are some of the things that have worked for me in the past.

1. Eat smaller portions more frequently – So instead of eating 3 big meals eat 6 little ones.  I did the Patrick Holford diet for a while and believe it or not It was not a lot of food that you ate but you actually felt quite full.

2. Exercise is important – do the Math! Even if you are the healthiest person alive you need to exercise. You need to burn of the excess energy you obtained from the food you ate otherwise your body turns it into fat.

I definitely do not want to preach to anyone. I know how it feels when tell that you are fat and you need to make a plan.

So that is what I did . Firstly I bought myself and anti burst exercise ball. You can find them at any Game, Makro, Mr Price Sport or Sport store. There are different sizes for your height. I’m not that tall so I only needed a 55cm ball. The one I bought is the Trojan brand. They have several programs on their website that you can download for free. I also found a really cool program on —–> here’s the link

I also adjusted my diet. I cut out bread , sugar and fizzy drinks and I’m drinking LOTS of water as well. I know I wont be skinny but I do want to lose a bit of weight before my wedding day.

Id  like to hear your tips as well and to all of you that have lost the weight congratulations keep up the good work!

Until next time…..

  1. I’m most definitely no expert on losing weight but the amount of weddings I’ve worked on (as a makeup artist and/or photographer) I’m always quite shocked from the initial meeting with the bride and groom to the huge change that the brides go through, throughout the wedding planning process. Some of them look as healthy as a butchers dog on first appearance and then proceed to lose so much weight that they actually look unwell but they are happy because they are “skinny”, its madness!

    • That’s is quite a scary thought. We are all so obsessed with being skinny and society’s views of how you should look that you sort of lose the plot. Thanks for leaving the comment as it good to hear what someone else that works in the wedding industry and has seen it first hand. May it make some of those already skinny and beautiful ladies sit up and smell the roses.

  2. I wasn’t exactly a skinny bride either… but there is something to be said for a bit of clean eating before the actual big day (as it helps with skin and hair shine) and of course a good pair of spanx to hold in all the wobbly bits was my absolute lifesaver!

As my HIM says *I fell in love with the woman that you are – so don’t go changing*… plus, I don’t think he would have been able to handle the hunger pang crazed woman that I would become if I had gone on a diet in the weeks before the wedding – especially with all the other added stress of wanting *the* perfect day!

Nothing drastic required…just make sure you are HAPPY!
