Pre Wedding Weight loss

Hi lovely ladies … and gentleman (in case there are some reading this blog). I hope you are all well  and healthy and still enjoying your wedding preparation journey.

Today I tackle weighty issue of losing weight. Firstly I need to confess that I’m no expert on this topic .  I have been overweight for most of my life and its something that I really struggle with.

Firstly there is no such thing as a quick fix, losing the weight and keeping it off is a mind change and a lifestyle change. You cannot expect to eat what you want and stay skinny. Yes there are all these wonderful tablets and gadgets you get to help you on your journey but once you reach your goal weight you will still have to continue eating as you did or you will just pack all the weight back on.

When it comes to weight loss here are some of the things that have worked for me in the past.

1. Eat smaller portions more frequently – So instead of eating 3 big meals eat 6 little ones.  I did the Patrick Holford diet for a while and believe it or not It was not a lot of food that you ate but you actually felt quite full.

2. Exercise is important – do the Math! Even if you are the healthiest person alive you need to exercise. You need to burn of the excess energy you obtained from the food you ate otherwise your body turns it into fat.

I definitely do not want to preach to anyone. I know how it feels when tell that you are fat and you need to make a plan.

So that is what I did . Firstly I bought myself and anti burst exercise ball. You can find them at any Game, Makro, Mr Price Sport or Sport store. There are different sizes for your height. I’m not that tall so I only needed a 55cm ball. The one I bought is the Trojan brand. They have several programs on their website that you can download for free. I also found a really cool program on Prevention.com —–> here’s the link http://www.prevention.com/fitness/strength-training/2-week-belly-flattening-routine?page=3

I also adjusted my diet. I cut out bread , sugar and fizzy drinks and I’m drinking LOTS of water as well. I know I wont be skinny but I do want to lose a bit of weight before my wedding day.

Id  like to hear your tips as well and to all of you that have lost the weight congratulations keep up the good work!

Until next time…..

Something old

We’ve all heard the saying something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue. Apparently this rhyme appears to originate from England, in an 1898 compilation of English folklore (according to Wikipedia).

However my post today will not be focusing on ideas for your something old. I will actually be revisiting the vintage wedding trend where it is out with the new and in with the old.

The vintage theme is beautiful and has the most exciting decor elements. decor items can easily be found as this is currently the in thing.

Think about bunting, button badges and birdcages. Rustic elements such as glass soda bottles and hearts created from wire or rope. Old porcelain teacups transformed into beautiful centerpieces. A clock , a suitcase, old newspaper or music sheets turned into confetti cones. The possibilities are really countless and all you need is little inspiration and imagination.  I’ve added a little visual inspiration below!

Until next time. Happy Planning!

The last few months

Good day to all my followers and lovely brides to be. We are nearing the 5 month mark and I cant believe how fast the time has flown.  Planning a wedding is extremely stressful and is accompanied by highs and lows but keep the faith ladies it’s the one day you will never forget.

So here’s what I’ve been up to these last two months. A  big sigh of relief as I found my dress! It so beautiful and fits me like a dream. I also ordered a veil from eBay…..hmmmn this will be used as a tea shower lol. NO really its not that bad. I paid next to nothing with free shipping so what did I expect and it looked precisely like the picture so no surprises there.  I also booked my hall, my photographer and video guy. So glad its done. Now I need to concentrate on my invitations, the bridesmaids outfits and other little things.

yes dress

I know I said I was going to order a dress from China but at the end of the day ordering something that you have not personally fit on is a bit risky.  You’d be surprised that styles you would never had imagined yourself in actually looks really good. I never thought I could pull of a mermaid style dress but I did and another A line dress that supposed to suit everyone just looked terrible on me. Just shows you!

I went for my first dress shopping experience at Bride and Co in Canal almost said yes to the dress the first time fitting. I was overwhelmed with emotions and I had a lovely crying session much to my embarrassment. I put the dress on hold but in the end I didn’t take it because…. the next week I went to the Bride and Co in Mitchells Plain and then I found the ONE!

It seems like Bride and Co is the David’s Bridal equivalent in South Africa as the style numbers match.  Below is a picture of the dress I almost took which I found on David’s Bridal website using the Bride and Co Code.

Right now you are probably bursting with anticipation wondering what dress I bought in the end. Im sorry you all will have to wait just a little longer when I post my wedding pictures. For now I hope I’ve left you inspired and full of hope that you can plan the most beautiful wedding. I will try to post more frequently and keep you all updated.

Happy planning!

All that shimmers is not only Gold – Choosing a ring thats right for you.

ring bling 2

Traditionally it was the grooms job to choose the wedding bands. Nowadays couples choose together or the bride chooses her groom’s ring.

Like with most things these days you are presented with a choice of various styles and metals. So how do you choose which one is the right fit for you? Lets look at the  main types of metals available and the characteristics of each one.

Platinum
A rare, natural white metal known for its strength and purity — platinum is usually 95-percent pure.

Extremely durable
Naturally hypoallergenic so it won’t irritate sensitive skin.
When platinum scratches, there is very little metal lost, so your ring will withstand years of wear.
Pure-white metal, it won’t cast any tint onto your center stone.

Yellow Gold/White Gold
A natural yellow metal gets combined with different metal alloys for added strength —

70- to 75-percent pure.
Available in a rainbow of colors, including white, green, and pink .
Yellow gold is turned into white gold when the surface is plated with rhodium, however, so the coating may eventually wear away and return to its original color.
Widely available and less expensive than some other metal options
Various added alloys mean you can personalize your hue.

Palladium
A lustrous silver-white metal, this natural ore is also used as an alloy in white gold.

Similar to platinum, palladium won’t tarnish.
Very flexible, and is hypoallergenic, but palladium’s lower density makes it less costly.
It has a darker, grayer tone than platinum.

Titanium

This sturdy metal has a cool, gray finish or can be a polished black.

The tough name and rugged style of this metal makes it particularly ideal for men’s bands.
Corrosion-resistant and hypoallergenic, titanium is as strong as steel but as weightless as aluminum, making it perfect for men who don’t normally wear any jewelry.

Tungsten Carbide
Durable metal that is dent and scratch resistant.
Very heavy
8 on hardness scale (10 – diamonds)
Permanently polished
More brittle than other metals
Cannot be resized.
Read more about this metal here.

Something to think about isn’t it? Good luck with choosing your rings. I hope I my post made your choice a bit easier.
